Become a Sponsor
Why work with Altruistic Life Services?
Become a sponsor with an organization that is compassionate and understands sponsored residential services from many perspectives. Our staff have over a decade of experience in the mental health field and working with new sponsors. They are well-trained in Human Rights, Developmental Disability (DD) Orientation, CPR & First Aid, and De-Escalation skills and they will train you in those same skills to be effective sponsors. We’ve built relationships within the Richmond area mental health community which means we are well aware of changes and trends that will impact your experience as a sponsor.5 Steps to Becoming a Sponsor
Contact Us
Reach out to our main office to inquire about becoming a sponsor. Our management team will be ready to discuss the steps and requirements of becoming a sponsor, as well as answering any questions you may have.
Application & Interview
You will be provided an application and forms (background check, home checklist, personal references, required documents) to complete. Please be advised that a background check is required for everyone 18+ years of age. Once you’ve completed and provided copies of the required document, we will schedule an interview with you and send your background check to be processed.
Home inspection
As soon as your background check(s) has returned and determines you are eligible, we will schedule a review of your home. The home review is to ensure that your home meets the requirements of Altruistic Life Services and DBHDS. Once Altruistic Life Services approves your home, a request will be made to DBHDS Office of Licensing for a License Specialist to come out and review your home. This is a state regulation.
Training
Altruistic Life Services provides extensive training in providing care and support to individuals as well as trainings required by DBHDS. Sponsors will also be required to obtain Adult CPR/First Aid, medication management, and Therapeutic Options. We will accept certifications that are valid.
Approval
Once your home review and required trainings are completed, you will receive an approval letter from Altruistic Life Services certifying that you have met all requirements. Altruistic Life Services will begin the process of matching you with an individual receiving waiver services. The timeline of matching you with an individual may vary.
